How to Declutter Your Home with less Stress?

Decluttering is always stressful. It brings sentimental feelings and thoughts especially if you are decluttering while in the mourning process. Also, if you are not mourning but need to create more space in a room, you still feel disorganized. You procrastinate without thinking about organizing that specific room in your home. It is necessary to declutter for your mental health, your comfort level, and for keeping your home safe for your family.

For some people decluttering can be easy without thinking about the sentimental value. While other people find it difficult to declutter because of the happiness from the past. Additionally being disorganized can make them feel depressed and nervous, and hold onto the past. Yet this brings more pain and difficulty to let go of material items. It is necessary to declutter for your peace of mind and to make a room more useful.

Although it takes an hour or more to organize and declutter, you will find some relief in doing this challenging task. Declutter by yourself when you are going through your clothes. However, if you have a big space to declutter it is best to work in a group with family members. If you use plastic bins, cardboard boxes, or laundry baskets separate the items and label them. If you come across items with sentimental value decide to keep them, give them away, or upcycle the items.

For example, a sentimental piece of jewelry can be made into a brooch, a bracelet, or a necklace. Also, t-shirts can be made into quilts. Sometimes you can make a memory box with small items. However, if you are not into making crafts, you can donate clothes and other items to thrift stores. If you are decluttering a child's bedroom, keep one or two stuffed animals to decorate their room.

Clean, dust, and organize a cluttered room without keeping everything. Some family members might want to keep a loved one's items for sentimental reasons. As long as they appreciate the items and it is in good hands. Decluttering usually takes one or two days depending on the size and space of the room. If decluttering takes more time, you can pay someone for professional cleaning.

Similarly, you can pay family members to help you declutter a room. One person can shred paper and organize your office desk. Another person can organize the kitchen, the closet, or small spaces that are disorganized. Also, another person can make a bin to sell items online or do a garage sale. Here are websites about decluttering.

  1. Whenever I declutter, it never seems to create any extra space, which is annoying. Nonetheless, I do it regularly because it's easy to hold on to thing you don't use or need anymore
