Take A Walk Outdoors Day 2026 & Ideas
Every
year on January 20th is Take a Walk Outdoors Day. It is a day to walk outdoors
while enjoying the weather, nature sounds, and to reduce stress. Walking
outdoors can be done individually or in a group. However, make sure you have
comfortable shoes to walk on the pavement, grass, or stony grounds.
Nonetheless, avoid stepping on stones or kicking stones especially if you have
limited balance.
Walking outdoors
can help you relax and be aware of your posture, arms, and hands. Fold your
hands in front of you and walk slowly. Next, fold your hands behind your back
and walk slowly. Another way is by folding your hands in front of you and lifting
one leg up if you were to march in a band. Alternate lifting your legs and folding
your hands behind your back.
As you do this
exercise, listen to the birds, the traffic noises, or the music coming from the
traffic noises. Another way is to walk and clap. Walk slowly and clap twice.
After that walk slowly and walk quickly until you reach the other side of your
garden. Clap again and smile.
Snapping your
fingers can also help you focus as you walk. Continue walking and snap your
fingers before you reach the last tree in your garden. Besides clapping and
snapping your fingers as you walk, you can practice walking as you fold your
arms in front of your chest. Then, walk and put your hands on your hips.
Lastly, put one hand on your hip and practice body positivity.
Notice how you
feel. Do hip circles. After that bend, your knees and continue walking. Besides
that, make sure your hair is tightly secure before walking and doing hip
circles. Lastly, do mini squats after you are done walking and before sitting
down.
Alternate putting
your other hand on your hip and walking side to side. Ensure your shoes are
comfortable and that you are safe walking in your garden. Additionally, you can
walk with a soft hand exercise ball and stop for a break to tap your toes as
you squeeze your soft hand exercise ball. Always listen to your body and if you
have too much pain, stop walking and sit down to rest. While you are sitting
look at the ladybugs, butterflies, and birds as you take a break.
Another way is by
walking and jumping for a few seconds. Walk towards your garden trees. Jump
when you reach the middle tree or the last tree in your garden. Observe the
ground and make sure it is safe to jump in your garden. Place garden stakes for
marking the areas to avoid while walking in your garden.
Always check the
weather reports and observe your surroundings in your garden. Take a break to
write poetry, journaling, and meditation. Make a list of broken branches,
weeds, fallen fruits, and other items that need to be addressed. After your
break, continue walking for another fifteen minutes before going back inside
your home. Here are resources with more tips for walking outdoors.
