Strong: Connections, Prevention, & Futures (Human Trafficking Prevention Month 2026)
"Stronger
Connections and Stronger Futures" is this year's theme for Human
Trafficking Prevention Month. Human trafficking can often begin through online
exploitation which must not be ignored. Understanding and knowing the signs of
human trafficking can prevent someone from experiencing it. Online exploitation
can be difficult to detect but it is possible to avoid it. It is necessary to
be cautious when looking for a job online.
Sometimes, jobs
advertised online can be part of human trafficking. It is recommended not to
give out any personal information such as mailing addresses, addresses of place
of residence, telephone numbers, passwords, and other information. As well as
not using your legal name when chatting online. Do not send pictures of
yourself online, especially if it is for a job offer. Nonetheless, always
report any suspicious job offers online.
Update all software
and anti-virus programs on all your devices. Block unknown people that want
your personal information. Do not engage with unknown people online or in
person. Avoid sharing information that can identify your location especially
when posting messages on social media. Be careful with persistent messages from
unknown people online and do report it.
Leave online
conversations quickly especially if you feel unsafe. Do not leave your location
settings turned on during and after online conversations. Make sure your
location settings is turned off when browsing social media and when
communicating online. Always communicate to an older adult or someone you can
trust if you are being harassed, cyberbullying, online exploitation, or sexual
exploitation. Develop a strong connection with your family and do not be afraid
to speak to them.
If you see nude
pictures of minors appear on your social media feed, report it to the
CyberTipline and Take It Down. Additionally, report to the Internet Crime
Complaint Center and to the authorities regarding online exploitation. Do save
printed copies of text messages and screenshots. Do not delete the message. Do
archive the messages to show to your local authorities.
Ending human
trafficking is possible and you can bring awareness to prevent it. Wear blue
for Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Speak to your friends, family members,
and neighbors to prevent Human Trafficking. Nonetheless, be alert and notify suspicious
activities in your neighborhood, school, or other public places. Pass out
information, attend community events, and post information to prevent others
from experiencing human trafficking.
It is necessary
to bring awareness of Human Trafficking Prevention Month by getting resources
from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Print out posters,
hang posters, and download social media images for Human Trafficking Prevention
Month to share on your social media feed. Keep in mind that you can contact the
