National Courtesy Month
National Courtesy Month is
observed in September. No matter what type of job you have, it is important to
practice courtesy. If you are an administrative assistant or also known as a
receptionist, having courtesy makes a difference in the office. Also, in the
medical field with scared and stressed patients, a little bit of courtesy
helps. However, not all secretaries or office assistants practice courtesy in
their jobs.
Often in the medical field, a
patient will come across a representative that answers the telephone in the
meanest manner. Most of the time patients hang up on them or leave that medical
facility. Additionally, the representative is so inconsiderate when making an
appointment with patients. Other times patients would get the medical representative's
opinions and comments about seeing a registered nurse. This is not acceptable
and should be addressed with the complaint department of the hospital.
A medical representative or an
administrative assistant is not allowed to give their opinions. Even if it is a
comment, the representative must stay quiet. Listen to the patient, especially
if she or he wants to see a medical doctor and is not a registered nurse.
Furthermore, a medical representative should not give the incorrect information
to the patients. Administrators are not supposed to give an unpleasant
experience to their patients at a medical hospital.
It is time-consuming to be on
the telephone with the medical representative. Moreover, it is difficult to
make an appointment with a medical representative who is rude. Nonetheless,
practicing courtesy also applies to using your manners in person. Always say,
"Thank you", " You're welcome", "excuse me," and
other polite words that were taught in your childhood. It makes people feel
appreciated.
Courtesy can also be used when
driving. Even if you are in the market and want to get something from the food
aisle, always say "Excuse me." If you cannot reach something, say
"Please, help me get this item". Offer to help someone find an item
if they cannot find it. Below are links for the National Courtesy Month.
