How do you celebrate Romance Awareness Month? Every year in August is Romance Awareness Month. It is a month to reflect, strengthen, and to bond with your partner. Dedicate thirty-one days to understand and get closer to your partner. Additionally get to understand yourself as their partner. 


Often staying at home to take care of your pets, children, and family members can make one partner feel distant. Although your partner is busy working and you feel loved; It is frustrating to voice your feelings, your dreams, and desires. Therefore, avoid saying "yes" to everything when your partner asks you questions. One worded answer can sometimes make your conversations feel less meaningful. Also agreeing without voicing your feelings can make you feel left out when making decisions with your partner. 


Even if you respond "no" to some questions, make sure you explain in detail about your disagreement. Speak calmly, clearly, and in a nice tone of voice. Be careful with your body language when speaking to your partner. Furthermore, find a quiet area to speak to your partner especially if you are planning a vacation trip, purchasing a new home, or other important decisions. Avoid interrupting your partner and listen to each other. 


Learning to communicate with your partner verbally and physically can be a lifetime process. Yet, it is necessary to understand each other as you continue strengthening your commitment in your relationship. Forgiveness is another essential part that any relationship needs to get closer to your partner. Practice forgiveness with yourself and with your partner. Although this can be challenging depending on what the argument was about, always understand your partner with an open mind. 


Celebrate Romance Awareness Month by asking your partner what they need, what they desire, or what can help them to get closer to you. Be aware of your partner's comfort level and how they express themselves. Keep in mind there are many unique love styles such as Passionate Love, Friendship Love, Logical Love, All-giving love, Possessive and Dependent Love, and Game Playing Love. Sometimes your love style can be a combination of all these items. Acknowledge, accept, and find ways to improve your relationship. 

Find quality time with your partner without forcing it. Spend time together and helping each other. Ask your partner how their day and surprise them without telling them about the surprise. Furthermore, let them surprise you to build a stronger bond with your partner. Here is a list to help you reflect on your relationship and to feel closer to your partner this month. 


  1. Write a letter, a note, a poem, or a positive affirmation to each other and read it together.
  2. Make a self-care love box as a couple and include your favorite items to do self-care together. 
  3. Practice mindful eating, mindful communication, or mindful gardening together or other mindfulness activities. 
  4. Make a handmade gift, a customized and personalized gift to give each other as a surprise. 
  5. Make a gratitude and love scrapbook for your partner. 
  6. Have a love journal to write and read to each other. 
  7. Walk together and at the same pace while meditating together. 
  8. Ask your partner if they need help washing dishes, throwing away the trash, or other household activities. 
  9. Practice loving-kindness, couple meditation, couple yoga, or relaxation techniques together. 
  10. Make a couple love vision board to inspire each other. 
  11. Write a list of your dream vacation, your adventures, or how you want to spend quality time with your partner. 
  12. Practice flower meditation as a couple and give your flowers to your partner. 


Have fun this Romance Awareness Month by learning more about your partner. Consult with a marriage counselor about unresolved issues. Do not feel afraid, embarrassed, or guilty for asking a marriage counselor. Encourage each other. Last, do not feel you are a disappointment, dissatisfaction, or not desirable for your partner.
