National Do Something Nice Day

October 5th is National Something Nice Day. It can be a day to do small acts of kindness. Yet, it can be a day to do something unexpected for someone. For example, you can greet someone with a smile, flowers, or with a cup of coffee for someone that is having a difficult day. It can also be a day to give someone a nice compliment and encouragement for them to continue accomplishing their career goals.

This day is like Random Acts of Kindness Day. However, this day can be about spending quality time with someone by watching a movie on television or reading to them. You do not have to purchase anything to spend a wonderful day at home with your loved ones. Spending quality time is often the best gift someone can give to another person. Calling someone on the telephone and having a meaningful conversation with them can make them have a smile on their face or make them laugh.

Call someone you have not heard from in many months or years. Send text messages or emails to someone that you know is having a difficult day. Play vintage music or music that you know that someone likes so they can feel less social isolation at family gatherings. Make a music playlist for a family member and surprise them with a hot meal. National Do Something Nice Day can also be about doing something for yourself and for your partner.

Give a massage to your partner. Speak to your partner with kindness and without demanding his help with the housekeeping. Let your partner watch their favorite television show without arguing about the remote control. Listen to their music while you are on a road trip without complaining about disliking their music. Learn to compromise and understand your partner through their music.

Do something nice for your children by helping them with their organization skills. Help them read and correct their homework. Plant flowers or vegetables together as a family. Prepare their day by playing games outside in their backyard and have a wonderful day spending time with them. Spend time with them, eat ice cream, and being nice to them.

Teach your children to practice acts of kindness, to be kind, and to do something nice for their friends. For example, they can share their crayons with their siblings or with their friends that visit them. They can also write friendship letters, make friendship jewelry, or help each other to learn how to ride a bicycle. Make a music playlist of your children's favorite music so they can listen to it while playing their favorite games. Nonetheless, do something nice today and every day to make someone smile.

Besides making someone smile, it is necessary to make them feel welcomed and loved. Give them an unexpected hug. Do something nice for a stranger by letting them walk ahead of you if they are rushing to go to work. Ask them what floor they are going to when you are in the elevator or ask them if they need help.
