It
is estimated that one point in three million students drop out of high school
every year. Also, forty percent of students drop out of college. There are many
reasons why students are dropping out of high school or dropping out of college.
However knowing the reasons can help a parent, a family member, friend, or a
teacher to prevent someone from dropping out. It is necessary to encourage a
student to continue their studies, especially if you know it can help them
develop their careers.
One reason
students are dropping out of high school or out of college is family reasons.
It is difficult to continue studying when a family member is sick and needs
caregiving. Additionally, some drop out to help the family by getting a job.
Others leave high school or college due to pregnancy. Yet, others leave because
of mental health and too much school stress.
Second students
leave high school because of bullying, student assault, or other forms of
harassment. Feeling uncomfortable in school or in college because of safety
reasons is another reason for dropping out. The third student dropped out
because of academic difficulties and lack of academic support. The fourth
reason is that students have financial hardship and might have a tough time
getting a scholarship. Nonetheless, getting student loans is another tough
decision for a student and for the entire family.
Therefore,
dedicate your time to bringing awareness and a better understanding to prevent
school or college dropouts. If your child feels frustrated with too much
homework; Encourage them to take a break when they come home. Another tip is
for them to practice relaxation techniques such as yoga, tai-chi, or riding
their bicycle for thirty minutes. Also, by coloring, self-care, playing board
games, puzzles, or watching television for one hour before doing homework. Last
preparing dinner or planting an herbal garden before doing their homework.
Prepare a
schedule with fun activities for thirty minutes or one hour per day before
doing homework. Relaxation is the best thing a student can do before doing
their reading assignments, mathematics, or other assignments. Furthermore, have
a homework schedule and know when the assignments are due. Have a homework
chart if necessary and review their homework. Spend one or two hours reviewing
their homework and encourage them to continue completing their
assignments.
Have family
support and offer tutoring to your child especially if you are good in
mathematics, spelling, or in grammar. As well as using grammar applications or
grammar software that can help in editing essays. However, avoid using AI for
writing essays because teachers know when you used it for homework. Another tip
is to keep track of reading assignments, essays, and project due dates. Besides
that, keep practicing until the homework schedule becomes a natural study
habit.
Make sure your
teenager gets enough sleep and exercise. Become a mentor for your teenager if
you have time or have someone that you trust to be a mentor. Find out if your
school or college offers tutoring services, after-school programs, or
customized training for careers. Join a tutoring group or a reading book club. Moreover,
encourage positivity when it comes to studying mathematics or improving their
reading skills.
Staying in high
school or in college is necessary for graduation and for a student's
self-esteem. Help them develop self-confidence, self-esteem, self-respect, and
self-worth. Besides helping them to be responsible and learning about
self-discipline when it comes to homework. Get resources if they have a
learning disability, developmental disability, intellectual disability, or
special education programs. Prepare a study area or a study room that is clean
and free from distractions.
Preventing high
school dropouts and college dropouts is essential for their future careers,
self-knowledge, self-growth, and their self-discovery. Nevertheless,
alternative schooling offers students the chance to learn in self-paced
classes. It also uses technology, AI, instructional videos, and other online
educational activities to continue studying for a short-term career with a
degree or certification. Encourage them to get passing grades and not to be
perfectionist in everything. Here are websites about preventing school or
