Safe Love Tips (Purple Thursday)

Every Third Thursday in October is Purple Thursday. Purple Thursday is a day to bring awareness of Domestic Violence Awareness Prevention and for starting a conversation for healthy relationships. Also, it is a day for healing as well as making a pledge for standing up against violence and abuse in relationships. You can make a pledge or use the pledge online for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Additionally, you can use a puzzle, a healthy relationship quiz, or other activities to start a conversation with your partner, children, friends, and family about having a safe relationship.

Use the hashtag, # Safe Love and # Purple Thursday for bringing awareness on social media about the warning signs, symptoms, and how to prevent domestic violence and abuse. Another way is to use Zoom backgrounds to start a conversation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month or just to bring awareness during your Zoom meetings. Wear purple for your job, to your school, or to your college. Wear purple ribbons or give out purple ribbons. Use purple backgrounds or make your wallpaper using the purple ribbon for domestic violence for your office computer for one day.

You can also pass out office supplies in purple and do activities for Domestic Violence Prevention in the workplace. Decorate your dining table with purple or use purple items for your tea break to have a conversation with your family. Use a purple lightbulb and light your porch purple. After having a conversation with your family, you can hang a purple background or use purple props to post on social media about the importance of having conversations regarding healthy relationships. Practice active listening, be available for your relationship, be honest, and trust your partner.

To be safe in your relationships, one needs to feel safe, to feel trust, have empathy, and be respectful with each other emotionally and physically. Permit your partner to express themselves as well as having personal space between each other if necessary for your mental and physical wellness. Furthermore, be careful in giving specific details about your past relationships because your partner might not want to know everything even if they say they want to know. If you are speaking to someone online on online dating websites do not be specific with your personal details about your job, your school, or your family. Last, meet in a public place, use the buddy system, and let your family and friends know where you will be when you meet your online date.

Share your mobile location with your family and friends. Do not share your mobile location with your online date. Protect your personal information. Avoid blaming, avoid mind games, or rough games during sexual intimacy. Protect yourself when you are ready to have sexual intimacy with your partner.

Be cautious but it is necessary to have safe love in all aspects with your partner or date. If your partner throws you, pushes you, shoves you, or hits you; Do not let them hurt you physically and emotionally. Dedicate this day to supporting survivors of Domestic Violence and Abuse by adding purple hearts on social media, making purple paper hearts, and spread awareness of relationships without violence. Also, commit yourself to prevent it from happening. Here are websites for Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Purple Thursday.
