National Sleep Comfort Month 2022

Now that daylight savings time is ending, this is the time to think about your sleeping habits. It is also about making your room feel more comfortable for sleeping. This month dedicate some time to National Comfort Month. Every November you must take some time to change your blankets, sheets, comforters, and your pillows. Since the weather changes frequently, you might want to layer your bed with extra soft blankets. Change your pillowcases and sheets to make your room feel more inviting for sleep.

If you have allergies, make sure you dust your room regularly. Wash your blankets, comforters, sheets, pillowcases, and pillows that you constantly use for your bed. These items should be washed weekly or every two weeks especially if you are allergic to dust. Use a humidifier with essential oils one or two hours before going to sleep. Wash stuffed animals and clean your child’s toys to avoid allergy symptoms, especially if they keep their toys in their bedroom.

Select a pleasant soft scent to wash your blankets, comforters, sheets, pillowcases, and pajamas. This will make you feel comfortable and relaxed before going to sleep.  Additionally, make sure you use one or more pillows depending on your sleeping style. Sometimes sleeping with two pillows can make your neck hurt in the mornings if you sleep on your back or the right side. Consult with your primary doctor if you can not sleep due to insomnia, restless leg syndrome, snoring, or other sleep disorders.

Unplug or turn off your electronic devices and humidifier before going to sleep. Make sure you are not allergic to the fabrics that are used for your blankets, sheets, pillowcases, and your pajamas. Having itchy skin can also keep you awake. Set some time to relax in your bedroom before going to sleep. Make sure you like the decor of your bedroom and that everything is comfortable.

Replace old pillows, blankets, sheets, pillowcases, and comforters. Making your room comfortable for sleep is the main focus of your bedroom. Avoid eating certain food items, alcohol, and caffeinated items before going to sleep. If you do not feel comfortable sleeping in your bedroom, rearrange or change the items in the room.
